Trotwood-Madison vs. Pickerington Central at Flyin’

On Monday afternoon Trotwood-Madison learned it had vaulted past Cincinnati Taft and into the No. 1 position in the Division II boys high school state basketball poll. Later that night Rams coach Rocky Rockhold wanted to hit a reset button.

“I don’t like where we’re at,” said Rockhold, following a 95-80 loss to Pickerington Central in the last of 19 Premier Health Flyin’ to the Hoop games over four days at Trent Arena. “We’re not playing tough Ram basketball. Until we get some toughness in us, we’re going to struggle against teams who have some firepower.”

Central (14-1) led by 18 points at halftime. Javohn Garcia wrecked the Rams with 32 points and Garner Wallace added 24. Wisconsin-Green Bay signee Amari Davis led Trotwood with 22 points. Malachi Mathews added 16 points, and Carl Blanton and Justin Stephens 14 each.

The state runner-up last season, Trotwood has been to three D-II state final fours since 2014.

“Big-picture basketball, we’ve lost in this tournament many times and made great runs afterward,” said Rockhold.
