Second-half surge spurs Piqua

Piqua scored 35 points in the second half to rally for a 42-21 win over visiting St. John’s Jesuit in Week 1 of the high school football season Friday.

Trent Yeomans carried 23 times for 206 yards with two touchdowns and Rupert Delacruz went 10 of 17 for 95 yards and a TD pass with 74 yards rushing and two touchdowns to pace the Indians.

Piqua trailed 14-0 before Delacruz found Tate Honeycutt on a 35-yard score to put the Indians on the board with 1:53 to play in the first half. Yeomans and Delacruz each scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the second half and Darien Tipps also had a four-yard TD run for Piqua.

Hilliard Darby 42, Northmont 20: Avery Miliner finished with 12 carries for 126 yards and two touchdowns but visiting Northmont failed to rally from an early deficit. Hilliard Darby's three rushing touchdowns in the second quarter put the Panthers ahead for good.

Carroll 35, Meadowdale 0: Marcus LaJeunesse and Joel Teleha had two touchdowns apiece for host Carroll. Ambrose Shannon tallied two sacks for a Patriots defense that held Meadowdale to 125 yards.

Miami East 42, Milton-Union 7: Kurt Brower had nine carries for 56 yards and three touchdowns and Colton McKinney rushed 13 times for 97 yards and two touchdowns to lead the visiting Vikings.

Twin Valley South 35, Dixie 6: Anthony Augspurger rushed for 153 yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns and Jordan Peterson picked off two passes to lead visiting TVS.

Talawanda 34, Madison 9: Host Talawanda scored 34 unanswered points before Stephen Melton's five-yard TD run put Madison on the board in the fourth quarter. Luke French added a 20-yard field goal to close the scoring for the Mohawks.

Kings 21, Lebanon 14: Kaleb Frankenburg had a TD run and pass, Alex Stotts tallied four catches for 41 yards and a touchdown and Mitch Turpin had 15 carries for 76 yards and a 25-yard reception in the loss for the visiting Warriors.

Coldwater 24, Kenton 2: Brody Hoying went 8-of-13 for 114 yards passing and added 200 rushing yards on 25 attempts with three touchdowns to pace the visiting Cavaliers.

St. Mary's 71, Sidney 21: The hosting Roughriders tallied over 700 yards rushing.

Clinton-Massie 42, Blanchester 0: Chayse Wolf rushed for 194 yards on 20 carries and scored four touchdowns, as the two-time defending Division IV state champions won on the road Thursday.

Mariemont 32, Oakwood 26: The Lumberjacks went 90 yards on the game's first drive, taking 10 minutes off the clock before Sam Banke scored the first of his three touchdowns. Oakwood led 20-7 before Mariemont's passing game took over.
