St. John’s grinds out win over Lehman

Lehman Catholic High School couldn’t withstand a punishing Delphos St. John’s ground game. The Cavaliers fell 49-7 in the Division VI state football semifinal at Wapakoneta on Friday.

The Blue Jays outrushed Lehman 290-98. Jordan Leininger led the attack with 108 yards on nine carries. Evan Burgei had 11 carries for 77 yards and Jordan Bergfeld added seven carries for 76 yards.

Leininger scored on a pair of touchdown runs to give Delphos a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

Lehman didn’t score until the fourth when Jonathan Slagle rushed for a 4-yard touchdown.

Delphos, which won state in 2008 and lost in 2009, will play Shadyside in the state final next week. Shadyside defeated Mogadore 28-13 on Friday.
