Malott said she was sold right away on the Flyers’ players and coaching staff.
“When I took my official visit, I could picture myself there,” she wrote Thursday night via Facebook. “I love the campus and I fit in so well with the girls. The coaching staff has been great during the four years they have been recruiting me. It also helps that they are so close to home.”
Malott averaged 17.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game last season, leading the Mohawks to the Division III state championship game.
She is the second-rated senior in Ohio and is 40th nationally in the latest ESPNU Hoop Gurlz 100 recruiting rankings. She won a gold medal for Team USA this summer at the FIBA America U18 Championship this summer. The 6-foot-3 senior forward/guard shot 40 percent from the 3-point line and was third on the team in minutes played.
Malott chose Dayton over Notre Dame, Purdue, Miami and Northwestern.
Malott will make her verbal commitment official during the early signing period — Nov. 10-17. Malott said she’s looking forward to the rest of volleyball season — the Mohawks play in the district finals on Saturday — and the upcoming basketball season.
The Flyers went 25-8 last season and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. They’re picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10 this season
Rossi said UD will be an even better program with Malott in the fold.
“Ally can be an All-American if she wants to be,” he said. “And she’s an even better person than she is a player.”
