Prep Headlines: Middies sixth at GMC golf tournament

MIDDIES SIXTH AFTER GMC’S FIRST ROUND: Defending Division I state champion Korey Ward of Lakota West shot a 3-under-par 69 on Wednesday, Sept. 23, in the first round of the Greater Miami Conference tournament at Weatherwax Golf Course, taking a seven-stroke lead over teammate Eric Steffey and Mason’s Drew Hutson. West leads the team standings as well with a 310 total, followed by Oak Hills (315), Fairfield (317), Mason (318), Lakota East (319), Middletown (328), Sycamore (328), Hamilton (339), Princeton (342) and Colerain (351). Leading Middletown were Jake Fletcher (79), Tyler Males (82) and Tyler O’Hea (82). The 36-hole tournament concludes today at Weatherwax.

VOLLEYBALL

MADISON 3, SUMMIT COUNTRY DAY 0: Ally Malott had 19 kills and three blocks Wednesday as the visiting Mohawks moved to 12-2 with a 25-13, 25-22, 25-15 victory. Other Madison standouts were Sarah Chaney (13 kills, three blocks), Becca Chiem (eight kills) and Mikayla Daniel (32 assists). The Mohawks travel to Preble Shawnee today.

MONROE 1, PREBLE SHAWNEE 0:

Nick Streibick scored the lone goal Tuesday as the Hornets beat the Arrows in Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division play. Monroe is 7-0-1.

GIRLS SOCCER

FENWICK 1, KETTERING ALTER 1: Kelci McHugh scored off a Sydney Neal assist Wednesday as the visiting Falcons moved to 4-2-4. Mary Turvy had eight saves in goal for Fenwick, which will complete a suspended game with visiting McNicholas on Saturday at 11 a.m. Alter is 3-6-1.
