Horizon League Baseball: Raiders blast Norse to open tournament

Wright State opened the Horizon League baseball tournament by crushing Northern Kentucky 15-3 on Thursday afternoon.

The defending champion and top-seeded Raiders scored two runs in the first inning then blew the game open with a seven-run fourth.

They were ahead 11-0 before the fourth-seeded Norse got on the board with two runs in the sixth.

Six Raiders had a pair of hits, including right fielder Peyton Burdick and catcher Brandon Giltrow, who both cracked home runs for Wright State (42-15).

Damon Dues, JD Orr and Seth Gray scored three runs apiece for the winners.

Bear Bellomy started the game for WSU and allowed two runs on three hits in six innings to get the win.

Kaleb Meeks took the loss for NKU after allowing a pair of runs in 2/3 of an inning.

Riley Perlich pitched the final three innings and got the save for the Raiders, who will take on No. 2 UIC or No. 3 Milwaukee at noon Friday back at Nischwitz Stadium.

The Flames and Panthers were set to follow the Raiders and Norse on Thursday afternoon.
