Reds hire Lou Piniella as senior advisor

The Cincinnati Reds have hired Lou Piniella, the manager that guided them to a World Series championship in 1990, as a senior advisor to baseball operations.

Piniella is expected to spend time with the team during spring training.

Piniella managed the Reds for three seasons, leading them to a World Series championship in 1990. Piniella spent 23 seasons as a manager after an 18-year playing career.

Reds pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training in Goodyear, Ariz. on Feb. 18. The full squad reports Feb. 23.
