H.S. Results for 12/23/16: Tippecanoe wins overtime thriller

Tippecanoe and Vandalia staged perhaps the most closely matched boys basketball game in the area Friday night, the outcome remaining in doubt until the final seconds of overtime as Tippecanoe finally prevailed, 42-40.

The teams were tied, 38-38, at the end of regulation time. Caiden Smith, who led the Red Devils (2-4, 2-3 Greater Western Ohio League) with 17 points, sank two free throws with 9 seconds remaining in OT to put his team on top, 42-40. Vandalia was called for an offensive foul with 3.4 seconds to go, and Tippecanoe ran out the clock.

Josh Wildermuth added 9 points for Tippecanoe. Miles Joiner led Vandalia (3-3, 1-3) with 16 points and 11 rebounds and Bryant Johnson contributed 8 points.

Boys Basketball

Anna 56, Minster 49, OT: Anna outscored Minster, 9-2, in overtime. Wyatt Benjamin scored 13 for Anna (5-2), Jarod Schulze 16 for Minster (3-1).

Badin 57, Bellbrook 38: John Marot scored 13 and Daunte DeCello 11 for Badin (3-3). Ethan Savey had 12 points and Jack Campbell added seven rebounds for Bellbrook (2-3).

Bethel 80, Arcanum 43: Caleb South approached a triple-double (17 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists) as Bethel moved to 6-1, 5-0.

Coldwater 61, St. Marys 54: Derek Jay of St. Marys led all scorers with 20, but 10 players scored for Coldwater, which claimed its first victory (1-2).

Covington 45, Twin Valley South 43: Jett Murphy's 10-footer with 2 seconds to play gave Covington the win after Twin Valley South had rallied from 17 points back to tie. Trevor Miller led Covington with 16 points. Willie Bowman had 15 for Twin Valley South.

Edgewood 54, Ross 41: Drew Reckart scored 13 points, including four 3-point goals, as Edgewood raised its record to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the SWOC. Landen Angel led Ross (2-4, 1-2) with 10.

Fairborn 67, Xenia 51: Branden Lilley scored 14, Shaunn Monroe 13, and Jarrod Bodekor 11 for Fairborn, which is 3-1 in the GWOC.

Fort Loramie 62, Houston 29: Evan Berning and Dillon Braun scored 17 of their combined 31 points during a 26-0 first quarter for Fort Loramie (6-0).

Miami East 58, Tri-County North 48: Logan West scored 23 for Miami East (6-1, 3-1).

Miamisburg 59, Lebanon 35: Duncan Hall scored 19 points and Miamisburg was perfect on 12 free throw attempts. Lathan Hartman added 15 and Jason Hubbard 12 for Miamisburg.

Monroe 53, Northridge 39: Lawrence Puleo dropped in four 3-point goals on his way to 19 points and Monroe (2-5) pulled away with a big third quarter (18-9). Tristan Backas added 16 for the Hornets, and Namon Crowder had nine for Northridge.

Mount Healthy 55, Hamilton 50: D'Marco Howard scored 11 points and Myles Howard had 8 points and 11 rebounds, but Hamilton fell to 1-4.

National Trail 41, Randolph South 18: Travis Hunt scored 10 for National Trail (5-2).

Northwestern 63, Tecumseh 50: Evan Noffke scored 22 points, Kurt Waters 20 for Northwestern. Clay Mastin and Reid Hale of Tecumseh combined for 33 points and 14 rebounds.

Springboro 58, Beavercreek 38: Nick Pluta scored 19 points, Kaleb Tabor 13, and Springboro (5-2) led, 18-6, after one quarter. Cedric Baldwin scored 14, Peyton Young 12 for Beavercreek.

Stebbins 58, West Carrollton 53: West Carrollton's spirited rally fell just short. Jayden Evans scored 18 for West Carrollton, which trailed by 14 after three quarters. Chris Davis scored 15 to lead Stebbins.

Triad 76, Mechanicsburg 46: Hadley LeVan scored 23 points for Triad (4-2).

Trotwood-Madison 85, Fairmont 63: Trotwood (5-0) is averaging 96.6 points through its first five games. Amari Davis scored 23 points, Torey Patton 21 and Myles Belyeu 20.

Troy 82, Piqua 74: Troy's Ryan McClurg scored 33 in a game during which the teams combined for 20 3-point goals, five by McClurg. Ben Schmiesing led Piqua with 20 points.

Girls Basketball

Covington 56, Urbana 34: Covington shot to an 18-5 lead after one quarter and rolled to a non-conference win. Samantha Whiteman scored 20 for Covington, Lexie Long 14 and Jordan Crowell 11. Hunter Rogan's 15 points and 9 rebounds were tops for Urbana (3-6).

Tri-Village 73, Meadowdale 16: Allie Downing scored 23 points, Danika Mann 20, as Tri-Village remained undefeated (8-0). Jaya Bailey and Dayja Parks scored 5 each for Meadowdale.

Wrestling

Fairfield 48, Beavercreek 21: Beavercreek won two of the first three matches, but Fairfield won the next four and went on to win. Ian Heiland recorded the only pin for Beavercreek.

West Liberty-Salem at Mechanicsburg: Tanner Workman (15-1) and Zayne Reed of WLS won by pin, Ely Serna was 2-0.
