Sinclair baseball edges Cuyahoga to win conference championship

Sinclair split a doubleheader with Cuyahoga on Sunday to win the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference championship.

The Tartan Pride dropped a 7-4 decision in the opener but rebounded with a 2-1 win in the nightcap at Grady’s Field in Xenia to earn a spot in the National Junior College Athletic Association Regional Tournament. Cuyahoga will play in the sub-regional tournament next week.

Coming into the four-game weekend series, Sinclair needed to win three games to win the conference title. The Tartan Pride swept a doubleheader on Saturday. They finished 17-3 in conference play; Cuyahoga 16-4.

In Sunday’s nightcap, Jake Dennis allowed one run and just three hits in 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win. Jack Goonan and Cole Quillen shut the door from there in the seven-inning game.
