The unattended sensors are activated by ground motion or movement of metallic objects nearby, among other things. They include cameras that can be remotely programmed and can capture images day or night for transmission anywhere in the world, company spokesman Mike Coster said Wednesday.
About 1,000 of the Scorpion sensors are deployed worldwide, with other U.S. government agencies among the customers, Coster said. The unattended, battery-powered systems are used for base perimeter security as well as monitoring remote areas where the United States does not have personnel deployed, he said.
