Dunkin’ Donuts announced this morning it has signed a multi-unit store development agreement with an existing franchise group, Gilligan Oil Company, for 13 new restaurants throughout the greater Dayton area, with the first opening planned for 2014.
According to a Dunkin’ Donuts news release, Pat Gilligan, CEO of Gilligan Oil Company, already has opened seven Dunkin’ Donuts locations in the Cincinnati area, is building five more there, and has a multi-unit store agreement with the company that calls for the opening of a total of 19 new restaurants in the Cincinnati area.
Gilligan Oil Company LLC was founded in 1993 and has extensive experience in the gas and convenience industry, including retail and wholesale divisions that provide gasoline to over 80 stations throughout Cincinnati, Dayton and Columbus, Dunkin’ Donuts officials said.
“The Dunkin’ Donuts brand has already been very successful for us in Cincinnati, and we are excited to expand Dunkin’ Donuts’ presence throughout Dayton and the state of Ohio,” Gilligan said in the news release. “In fact, we will be building free-standing Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants with drive-throughs as well.”
The chain’s sole Dayton-area shop is at 7777 Springboro Pike (Ohio 741) in Miami Twp. just north of the Dayton Mall. The area had three or four other Dunkin’ Donut locations over the years, but those stores “came to the end of their leases” and closed, Grant Benson, Dunkin’ Donuts’ vice president of franchising and market planning, told the Dayton Daily News in March 2011. At that time, the Canton, Mass.-based company hosted a franchise seminar in downtown Dayton and announced it was offering incentives for those wishing to open locations in the Dayton area.
In this morning’s news release, Benson said, “Our secret to success is our passionate franchisees who provide a high-level of customer service to our guests every day … . We believe this existing franchise partner will cultivate lasting customer relationships and become integral parts of their local communities.”
Historically a doughnut and hot coffee chain, Dunkin’ Donuts has expanded its offerings in recent years to include frozen and iced beverages as well as other breakfast and lunch items.
