Fifth Third Bank has closed a branch near the University of Dayton.
The Cincinnati-based bank posted a note to the door of the former 1200 Brown St. branch announcing the closure. A message was left with Fifth Third seeking more information.
While deposits have increased, banks have been shrinking their retail bank networks as consumers shift to online.
Fifth Third Bank lists 13 branches still in business in Dayton and the surrounding suburbs.
This also frees a prominent storefront in a busy retail strip near UD that is home to other shops and restaurants. Aaron Savino with real estate firm Miller-Valentine Group, who still represents the building owner in leasing, said they are looking for another tenant to fill the space.
