Walmart launching in-home delivery pilot this fall

Walmart will test in-home delivery under camera supervision later this year, taking another step in an intense grocery war to offer the most convenience to shoppers.

Walmart associates will shop for customers, drive the orders to their homes, enter the house through smart technology and use wearable cameras while placing groceries in the refrigerator. Shoppers will be able to watch the delivery in live time starting when the worker requests access to the home, according to a Walmart release.

The Walmart employees will go through several training programs, including how to enter a customer’s home and treat it with respect to how to pick the freshest groceries.

Later this year, Walmart will also accept returns through the in-home delivery method at the pilot locations, according to the statement.

More than 1 million customers will gain access first in Kansas City, Missouri; Pittsburgh; and Vero Beach, Florida.

Walmart has not announced further plans for expansion or how much the in-home delivery will cost.
