New taco restaurant coming to downtown Dayton’s Water Street

A taco joint with multiple locations in central Ohio is moving into a new housing development in downtown Dayton’s Water Street District.

Local Cantina, which has about nine stores in Columbus, Gahanna, Westerville, Dublin and other cities, will occupy nearly 4,500 square feet of space in the Centerfield Flats building.

The restaurant and bar, which will have a large patio, is expected to open later this year.

Local Cantina offers a “twist” on Tex-Mex. They sell tacos, quesadillas, burritos and an all-you-can-eat chips and salsa bar.

“Dayton has undergone a recent transformation with booming development,” said George Tanchevski, owner of Local Cantina in a statement. “Crawford Hoying (developer at Water Street District and Centerfield Flats) has been a trusted partner of ours for several years and being so close to the locally loved Dragons stadium inspired us to choose this location.”

Centerfield Flats, which will open in the spring, features 110 new luxury apartments next to Fifth Third Field, the home of the Dayton Dragons. Residents of the new housing will have a top floor event space that provides views of the ballpark and riverfront.
