10 most stressful jobs led by sales

Being a salesperson is more stressful than being a cop, and cashiers have more stress in their lives than enlisted military personnel, according to CareerCast.com’s Top 10 list of the most stressful jobs of 2016.

The level of stress in each occupation was determined by 11 factors: travel, deadlines, working in the public eye, competitiveness, physical demands, environmental conditions, hazards encountered, the life of oneself or others at risk, meeting and interacting with customers and/or the public, and the potential for job growth.

While stress is “virtually omnipresent” in all occupations, and periods of high stress are unpredictable, CareerCast found workers in some professions typically experience stress in the workplace at a higher rate in the following order:

1. Salespeople

2. Cashiers

3. Middle and high school teachers

4. Managers and corporate executives

5. Radio and TV broadcasters

6. Taxi drivers

7. Waiters

8. Firefighters

9. Enlisted military personnel

10. Police officers
