Target gives an additional $3 million for Hurricane Harvey relief

Target is giving $3 million to aid Hurricane Harvey relief efforts in addition to the $500,000 the company donated earlier.

The chain retailer will give funds to the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Team Rubicon. Target initially provided $500,000 on Aug. 28 to relief organizations as they were assessing the damage, the company said.

“While Hurricane Harvey marks one of the worst natural disasters in American history, it’s also shone an incredible spotlight on the very best qualities of our communities. The stories of loss and suffering are heartbreaking, but the stories of courage, generosity and selflessness are nothing short of remarkable,” said Target CEO and chairman Brian Cornell.

Target also set up a disaster relief fund with non-profit partner Global Impact to support Target team members and their families, and will match employee donations dollar-for-dollar up to $1 million.

After Hurricane Harvey made landfall, Target closed more than 30 stores. While most stores have safely reopened, two stores — one in Houston and another in Humble, Texas — remain closed indefinitely.
