NEW DETAILS: Germantown man found dead was shot, court records show

A 29-year-old Germantown man who was found dead in his home Tuesday morning had been shot in the head.

Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger identified the man on Wednesday as Joshua Shortt. Germantown police said they believe he died under suspicious circumstances.

Police responded around 11:08 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a deceased person at 320 N. Main St. Police found the man, later identified as Shortt, on the basement floor with a gunshot wound to his head, according to Miamisburg Municipal Court documents. There wasn’t a gun in the immediate area.

A woman told police she hadn’t been able to contact Shortt since Sunday, when he texted her around 5:30 p.m., according to court records. After she reportedly couldn’t get ahold of him via text or phone call, she went to the North Main Street home, where she found him in the basement.

A 2001 red Honda CR-V was missing from the home, according to court records.
