The Springfield Museum of Art is one of just three galleries in the state chosen to host the Best of 2013: Ohio Designer Craftsmen Annual Juried Exhibition.
The exhibition offers more than 70 works of fine art from artists across Ohio, ranging from textiles and metal to ceramic, wood and more. There are 14 award categories.
The Best of 2013 exhibition will be available during museum hours Wednesdays through Sundays through December. The exhibition is organized annually by the Columbus-based Ohio Designer Craftsmen and the Ohio Craft Museum.
“There’s a real variety,” Springfield Museum of Art Director Ann Fortescue said. “It lets people look at this functional work that is familiar and surprising.”
Among the standout pieces is a silver bracelet with a pearl that looks as if it has been peeled from the inside of an oyster. Others can be left up to the imagination as to what the artist had in mind in creating it.
Local artists are represented including Scott Dooley, a Wittenberg art professor with his award-winning porcelain piece, Paired Ewers, for which he earned the Friends of Phyllis Clark Award For Excellence in Functional Ceramics.
Pam Geisel of Yellow Springs is also present with her quilt, Cosmic Connectivity.
“The scope of the exhibit is terrific, all in all a great show for our audience to discover,” Fortescue said.
