DAYTON — If you haven’t had your fill of “The Nutcracker” by then, you can sit down and watch five widely different televised productions of it on Christmas Day.
OvationTV’s “Battle of the Nutcrackers” marathon starts at 8 a.m.
If you prefer your “Nutcracker” live and fairly traditional, there are four performances remaining in Dayton, with the Dayton Ballet’s annual production at the Schuster Performing Arts Center.
The two-act ballet choreographed by Dermot Burke and Karen Russo has a few new touches. The Waltz of the Flowers now includes a woman’s solo (which will be done throughout the run by company members Keenan McLaren or Katie Keith).
The antics for the rats and soldiers during the battle scene have also been tweaked. But the basic framework of the family favorite remains the same.
Featured roles will be danced by the following performers:
Halliet Slack and Erika Cole, Snow Queen; Dillon Anthony and Dan Karasik, Snow King; Erika Cole and Christy Forehand, Sugar Plum Fairies; Grant Dettling and Justin Michael Koertgen, Nutcracker Cavalier/Prince.
More than 100 area children will participate as party guests, mice, soldiers and ensemble members during the Act 2 divertissements.
