“It has been a very long summer,” Hairless Hare owners Mike Legg of Medway and Matt Harris of Butler Twp. said in their grand-opening announcement.
Going forward, the brewery’s hours to start will be Wednesday and Thursday 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturday 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.
“We will expand our hours as our beer production truly gets underway and we can comfortably supply the tap room with the expanded hours,” Legg said via email Wednesday night, Oct. 23. “We just don’t want to run out of beer.”
At opening, the brewery will have four taps revolving through Blonde Ale, American Ale, IPA, Rye Pale Ale, Double Pale Ale, ESB, and a Chocolate Stout,Legg said.
The brewery owners signed a three-year lease on a 2,400-square-foot space that previously housed a Cassano’s Pizza King restaurant.
Legg said in April that the brewery will seat about 50.
On Wednesday, Legg siad the brewery will not be serving food until later this year. “There will be soda, bagged pretzels and chips, and customers can bring in or order food delivered to the brewery,” he said.
Legg and Harris have worked together for 12 years in the machining-related manufacturing field, and Harris has been home-brewing for several years, Legg said. Hairless Hare beers include a blonde ale, rye pale ale and chocolate stout.
Some breweries reported earlier this month that the partial federal government shutdown was hampering their efforts to open, but Legg said at the time his brewery was not being affected.
“Luckily we have all of our federal permits in order and received our only recipe approval we needed to have for our chocolate stout for our opening,” Legg said on Oct. 10. “Since our operations and business model only had us starting out by supplying our tap room and some wholesale sales of kegs, we are not required to have label approval since we are not bottling yet or selling out of state.”
