Previously, Chappelle earned two Grammy awards for Best Comedy Album for “Equanimity & The Bird Revelation” in 2019 and “The Age of Spin & Deep in the Heart of Texas” in 2018.

This time around, he faced off against Jim Gaffigan for “Quality Time,” Ellen DeGeneres for “Relatable,” Aziz Ansari for “Right Now” and Trevor Noah for “Son of Patricia.”
This win comes after the comedian earned the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Comedy in 2019. Chappelle was not present to accept his award.

Springfield native John Legend was also nominated for two awards at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.
The crooner was nominated for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for “A Legendary Christmas,” but was beaten out by Elvis Costello and The Imposters for their work on “Look Now.”
However, Legend managed to secure a win in the Best Rap/Sung Performance category for his work on “Higher,” alongside DJ Khaled and Nipsey Hussle, a rapper who was killed in 2019.
Legend helped to honor Hussle with a tribute performance of “Higher” alongside Meek Mill, DJ Khaled and many others.
In 2018, Legend became the first African American man to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award. Only over a dozen others have been able to claim this unique distinction throughout the decades. On his shelf, you’ll be able to find at least one Oscar, a Golden Globe, and now, 11 Grammys.
