The Miami County Food Truck Rally — an event that made its introduction to a good turnout in 2015 despite less than favorable weather — is back, and bigger.
The rally was organized as a fundraiser by the Miami County Agricultural Society for the Miami County Fairgrounds, which again will host the rally Saturday, May 19, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
“Last year’s event was successful even with the weather not fully cooperating. We decided to continue for many reasons, one of which is the immense positive response we received from attendees last year,” said Roberta Jacobs, an event committee member from Troy.
Jacobs said the food truck industry’s explosion has brought with it a variety of unique/signature entrees. The operators are easy to work with, fun and know each other from other events, she said.
“They are like a family among each other and, even though they are competitors, they are very supportive of each other,” Jacobs said.
More than 30 food vendors are expected for this year’s rally. The committee will have tables throughout the rally area as well as inside dining available.
Among food offerings as of early May were ice cream, soft pretzels, Mexican food, Korean BBQ, waffles, croquettes, bowls/wraps, kettle corn, chocolate covered strawberries, gourmet hot dogs, sausage, Asian cuisine and smoked meats.
Additional activities are planned for this year including arts and crafts and direct sales vendors, an entertainment tent and matinee harness racing. Although there won’t be betting with the racing, the racing will provide an opportunity for people to preview the upcoming racing season, Jacobs said.
Also during the day the Miami Valley Kruizers club will host a car show at the fairgrounds, where the Upper Valley Fiber Fest also will be taking place.
Rally proceeds will benefit the fairgrounds for use in maintaining the property and its buildings
