A new McDonald’s restaurant at 160 Woodman Drive will open at 5 a.m. Friday and will employ twice as many people than its smaller predecessor around the corner.

The former McDonald’s restaurant at 4856 Airway Road — which closed July 16 — was built in 1960. It did not have a lobby or inside seating, and offered drive-through and walk-up sales only, a McDonald’s spokeswoman said. Plans call for razing the building, she said.

The new restaurant hired 40 additional employees and now employs 80.

Charles Hamilton, franchise owner/operator, said in a news release that the new restaurant will provide “a clean, modern environment that is welcoming and family-friendly.”

The 24-hour restaurant will offer side-by-side drive-through lanes, and will seat about 85. The dining area will feature flat-screen televisions and free Wi-Fi.

Construction on the new facility began in June as part of a reinvestment project by McDonald’s. Last year, the rebuilding or significant renovation of a dozen McDonald’s restaurants in the Miami Valley cost about $16.6 million and created dozens of new jobs at the fast-food chain.

As part of the grand opening, the new McDonald’s location will offer special prices on Friday and Saturday: Sausage Egg McMuffins and Egg McMuffins that usually cost about $2.69 will be sold for 99 cents, and Big Mac sandwiches that are usually about $3.69 will be sold for $1.99.
