“I think I perceive life as a little more fragile and a little bit more precious than most people do,” he said. “I don’t take things for granted much. I know how quickly things can change.
“It has a lot to do with who I am and the way I think and write songs,” Judy said. “I’m able to be in touch with my emotions, and I think that was brought forth because I had some of those battles and tragedies.”
On his new self-titled solo album, co-produced by Judy and sound engineer Mark Day, the talented songwriter ably works his way through folk, acoustic rock, country and bluegrass.
“Most of these are songs of heartbreak and relationships gone wrong,” Judy said. “I’m just a lover like that, I guess. I’m sure it’s been said many times by many people before me, but I have to get that stuff out on paper. That’s part of the healing process.”
Judy will celebrate the release of the new CD at Brixx Ice Company on Saturday, Feb. 27.
“The main thing you’ve got to know about Ryan Judy is he’s passionate,” Brixx co-owner Eric Van Allen said.
“He’s putting everything he’s got into it. When you see him play a show, at the end, all you see is a puddle left of him. He burns off everything he’s got. He’s exhausted and that’s to be respected.”
