Tha Alkaholiks bringing the hip-hop party

Philly Phill presents a massive hip-hop show at One Eyed Jacks, 2638 Colonel Glenn Highway, Fairborn, at 7 p.m. Sunday. The bill features headliners Tha Alkaholiks, special guests Cali Agents and Casual and regional talent such as Mad Dukez & Fresh Kils, Village Fam and Tino.

Party rap: Tha Alkaholiks first made their name in the early 1990s, a time considered by many as the Golden Age of Hip-Hop. Many of their contemporaries were either preaching positivity or delivering gangsta rap, but this crew was clinging to hip-hop's early days as party music. For a taste of the group's good-time vibe check out hits such as "Make Room," "Daam" and "Hip-Hop Drunkies."

Ohio roots: While Tha Alkaholiks are one of the quintessential California acts only one of its members, rapper James "J-Ro" Robinson, was born in the state. The other two have Ohio ties. DJ and producer Eric "E-Swift" Brooks was born in Georgia and raised in Toledo. Rapper Rico "Tash" Smith is a Columbus native.

Back in form: Tha Alkaholiks were mostly inactive in the early 2000s while the members pursued solo projects. The group officially disbanded in 2006 following the release of the group's fifth album, "Firewater." However, in recent years J-Ro, Tash and E-Swift have begun working together again. The group is currently on the Clash of the Titans tour with Cali Agents and Casual.

More info: Tickets for Sunday's show are $15 in advance, $20 day of show. Call (937) 825-2743 or visit www.alkaholiks.com.
