Quilt & Fabric Arts Show highlights quilting artistry

More than 30 vendors will participate in this 29th annual show, expected to draw 30,000.

LEBANON — What many refer to as the event that marks the beginning of spring in the area will be celebrating its 29th year.

The Lebanon Quilt & Fabric Arts Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to

4 p.m. Sunday, March 2-4 at the Warren County History Center at 105 S. Broadway St. in Lebanon.

The event, which typically attracts about 3,000 people throughout the weekend, will feature more than 30 vendors. According to Victoria Van Harlingen, executive director of the Warren County Historical Society, about 90 percent of them are returning to the show and many of them have been coming back for more than six years.

“People come expecting to see specific vendors and we put them in the same places,” she said.

The show has become so popular that Van Harlingen said there is a waiting list for additional vendors who would like to be included.

“It’s a very well-known show,” she said.

In addition to the vendors who will attend the event, there will be four exhibits for visitors to enjoy, including a personal collection from an area quilter.

Nedra Whittington, who had a quilt shop in Lebanon for many years, will present her collection of quilts, which includes some of her own creations.

“She is a wonderful quilter and a beautiful artist in her own right,” Van Harlingen said.

“Nedra’s Garden,” one of Whittington’s creations, also will be raffled off during the show.

In addition to Whittington’s collection, there will be an exhibition of the historical society’s quilts as well as a personal collection from a longtime quilter in the western U.S. and a unique collection of nine rare Warren County schoolgirl needlework samplers.

Van Harlingen said the show includes some items that are outside the fabric arts and may interest a wide variety of people, including a man from Texas who returns to the show each year. The jewelry he creates from antique buttons is often a hit with attendees, Van Harlingen said.

“It’s quite an eclectic show,” she said. “It’s a lot of fun.”

In addition to the event itself, Van Harlingen said the entire downtown area participates in the fun. Many of the shop owners in Lebanon will hang quilts in their windows for visitors to view, and shops and restaurants will be open for quilt show attendees to visit.

Admission to the event is $6. For more information, call (513) 932-1817.
