Kings Island amusement park has many options to help guests chill out this summer, but the most refreshing on a hot day would be its Soak City Waterpark.
The park will open to the public on Saturday, featuring more than 50 water activities, including 30 water slides, tropical lagoons, two wave pools and play areas for kids.
“There is something for everyone in the family at Soak City. Our guests also enjoy being able to go back and forth between Soak City and the main park. You don’t have the option of riding world record-holding roller coasters like Banshee and The Beast at other water parks,” said Don Helbig, Kings Island’s public relations area manager. “We offer two parks for one price.”
Dive-In Movies, which Helbig says were popular with guests last year, will return this season on Friday nights from June 20 through July 25 in the Tidal Wave Bay area. Helbig says the park will also feature some new menu options for guests and some roving entertainment with a street team band.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the opening of Kings Island’s waterpark in 1989 as WaterWorks this season.
Park officials are hoping for more cooperative weather this year. The early part of July last year had a number of days with rain and cooler temperatures, but Helbig says it didn’t stop people from coming out.
“We had a good year last year, in both the main park and Soak City. There was a lot of interest and excitement that built over the summer for what we might be doing this year with the addition of Banshee. We added events such as Dive-In Movies and surf lessons in Soak City, and those events were well received by our guests,” said Helbig. “That’s one of the great things about having two parks for the price of one. On days when it may rain a bit or be on the cooler side, while you may spend a little less time in the water park than you were planning, you were still able to make it a full day by spending time in the main park.”
