This is the season for Halloween-themed rock shows, but none of them are quite like In Nomine Daytonas III, the third annual seasonal party at Rockstar Pro Arena in Dayton on Saturday, Oct. 20.

“As long as I’ve been playing music, like, since I was a teenager, I’ve always done some sort of Halloween show every year,” organizer Gee Gee Bradley said. “There was Jamy Holliday’s old Monster Hop at Canal Street Tavern and various other Halloween concerts.

“A few years ago we threw one at Rockstar and we called it In Nomine Daytonas, which is bad, loosely translated Latin for ‘In the Name of Dayton.’ It’s from the old metal song ‘In Nomine Satanas,’ by the band Venom, which we thought would be funny.”

Like past years, In Nomine Daytonas will feature Halloween vendors and a costume contest. New this year: a Halloween-themed pinup contest.

“It will be classic, vintage-style pinup,” Bradley said. “There will be one prize for a regular costume and then a separate one for the pinup contest. My wife is really involved in that whole pinup world. She used to do a lot of pinup modeling and she often emcees and judges different pinup contests in the area. The pinup costume contest was her idea and we had so many girls excited about it.

“You see pinup shows at a lot of classic car shows but we don’t see it a lot at rock concerts,” he continued. “There is definitely a lot of crossover there. It’s for women of all different body types and extremely revealing outfits are not allowed. It’s meant to be in the theme of old-school, classic pinups.”

The show’s headliner is Grave Robber, a horror-themed Christian rock band from Fort Wayne, Ind.

“We try to mix up the lineup and we always have at least one spooky, horror-rock band to fit the whole Halloween theme,” Bradley said. “Grave Robber will be covering that shtick and they’re a blast. They played the very first one but they didn’t play last year. They all look like the Crypt Keeper. They wear skull masks and cloaks and their live show is a lot of fun. I’ve known them all forever. They’re a great band and a great live act.”

The bill also features Bundy & the Spins, the Nuckles and Viceroy Kings, Bradley’s latest band with Brian Hogarth (vocals, guitar), Pat Jones (guitar), Ed Lacy (keyboards) and Jacob Worsham (drums). Doors open at 7 p.m. and music starts at 8 p.m.
