Yellow Cab to celebrate 20th anniversary of Guided by Voices classic album with tribute and special beer tapping

One of the biggest bands to come out of Dayton will be in the spotlight during a special anniversary tribute event.

On Saturday, Feb. 23 The Yellow Cab Tavern will welcome the Blazing Gentlemen, performing the entirety of Guided By Voices’ classic album “Do The Collapse” 20 years later, along with a salute to other hits, live favorites and deep cuts.

Doors are at 8 p.m. and tickets are $7 in advance or $10 on that day.

“I always say that booking is all about throwing the shows you want to go to and few times is that more true than with this show,” David Obenour, concert promoter, said in a news release. “Blazing Gentlemen showed Dayton a little of what they can do at Heedfest last summer and I can’t wait for them to take on ‘Do the Collapse.’”

Guided by Voices was a mainstay on the Dayton bar scene for years before earning national acclaim with mid-1990s classics like “Bee Thousand” and “Alien Lanes.”

The event also will include an exclusive first-tapping of Branch & Bone Artisan Ales' "Hold on Hops," an American Light Lager.

“With another one of their beers named Salty Salute, I figured it’d be worth it to ask if they’d like to get involved,” Obenour said. “I’m happy to say that they were every as bit nerdy and excited about the evening as the rest of us.”
