There’s a good shot you’ll find a scandalous Cinderella, a dirty Snow White or a shirtless Pinocchio in the Montgomery County Coliseum this weekend.
AIDS Resource Center Ohio will transform sections of the high school gymnasium-like venue at 1043 S. Main St. into an enchanted forest, the Ice Age and a witch’s castle for its annual Masquerage ball
This year’s theme is “Once Upon A Time” and based on the poster promoting the event and past experience, some revelers will wear fairy tale-inspired costumes that walk on the scantily clad side of the rainbow.
Masquerage may be Dayton’s party of parties, but it has a purpose, Lisa Grigsby, ARC Ohio’s special events director said.
“We look for a theme that gives up lots of options for decor, costumes and a deeper meaning,” Grigsby said. “Once upon a time AIDS was a death sentence for those infected and now, through testing and treatment so many of our clients can enjoy a happily ever after.”
This year’s ball chaired by Realtor Denise Swick is expected to raise $165,o00 and attract 1,000 party-goers.
General admission is $50 — the amount it costs ARC Ohio to administer one HIV test.
The ticket includes a welcome cocktail, courtesy of Jagermeister, dancing and entertainment.
The Rubi Girls, Zoot Theatre Company and Dayton’s Annual Transylvanian Convention are among the acts slated to appear on the Macy’s Stage. Fusian will provide hand rolled sushi from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. Scratch Event Catering will provide additional food.
