MIAMISBURG — This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Miamisburg Spring Fling Festival, and event organizers say folks are in for a treat.
“It truly is a community festival. There’s something there for everyone to enjoy,” said Hazel Eisele, a former city councilwoman and chairwoman of this year’s festival.
“I think the main thing everyone will say when they leave is what a great time they had.”
Things kick off Thursday night, May 20, with the annual carnival in the parking lot to the south of the Carnegie Building, followed by the Taste of Miamisburg the next day.
Some 130 local food vendor booths will be in Market Square and an entertainment stage will be set up on Central Avenue, just west of First Street.
Featured local band AQK will play from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday.
Arts and crafts and a variety of children’s activities and performers, including cloggers, is planned through the weekend festival taking place at Library Park, with the annual parade at 9:45 a.m. Saturday.
From noon until 6 p.m. that same day, a variety of performers will be featured, including Air Force Band New Harmony.
“This will be their first performance, ever, so we’re very excited that their premier will be in Miamisburg,” Eisele said.
All festival proceeds go back into next year’s event fund, Eisele said. Through Spring Fling funding, Eisele said the committee has installed in Library Park a gazebo and stage, refurbished a fountain and installed another, and pays for annual seasonal lighting.
She said proceeds from previous festivals helped fund Miamisburg’s community policing program and its canine unit, as well as a $15,000 thermal imaging camera for the fire department.
