Beer lovers will have their pick of dozens of brews during the seventh annual Great American Beer Tasting from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Fifth Third Field, 220 N. Patterson Blvd.
The event, a partnership between the Dayton Dragons and Heidelberg Distributing, attracts more than 1,000 brew fans, according to Brandy Guinaugh, the minor league team’s vice president of sponsor services.
“It is a fanstastic event,” Guinaugh said. “This is one of those opportunities for people to explore downtown and what downtown has to offer.”
Admission is $25 in advance and $35 the day of the tasting. Designated driver tickets are $5 each. Participants must be 21.
Visit daytondragons.com/beertasting to order advance tickets or call (937) 228-2287.
More than 80 beers — the largest amount and widest variety of beers in Great American Beer Tasting history — will be sampled in a covered area. The tasting happens rain or shine, but as Guinaugh pointed out, the weather is expected to be clear.
“It will be a huge event for us on Saturday,” she said.
The Great American Beer Tasting is not connected directly to the fourth annual Dayton Beer Week, which starts Aug.16, or Alefest, a craft beer festival set for Aug. 23 on City of Dayton-owned land behind Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark, 1301 E. Siebenthaler Ave.
Craft and and widely known beer selections will be available at the Great American Beer Tasting.
Each taster will be given a punch card for 20 tastes, plus the Budweiser Day Fresh Beer. The event also will feature cornhole and carnival-style games available on the field. Each sampling is 4 ounces.
Attendees have a shot at Anheuser-Busch and Dragons raffle prizes that include a Budweiser recliner, a Bud Light mini fridge, a Landshark cornhole set, a Michelob Ultra bicycle, a Bud Light speaker tower and Dragons autographed memorabilia. These items will be given away toward the end of the event.
