“It sucks that it took these circumstances to pull these people together but it’s a really great bill,” said Ricky Terrell, the organizer of Wednesday’s Masonic Center event. “It’s really going to lift the spirits of a lot of people that have been struggling with all of this stuff.”
Wednesday’s show features acoustic performances from the singers of pop-punk bands Bayside, Thursday, Saves the Day, I Am the Avalanche, the Movielife and the 1984 Draft. It was originally planned for Yellow Cab Tavern but as the bill grew, that changed.

“I was talking to Mark Jeffers at Yellow Cab and he was worried there would be way too many people to do it there,” Terrell said. “He reached out to the Masonic Center and they agreed to let us use it for free. Crown Plaza has been great. They’ve literally given me as many rooms as I want for the performers. We have a ton of other sponsors, which is covering the plane tickets, marketing and other expenses. We’ll donate any sponsorship money left after the show to the fund.
“I’ve never worked on a show this big but it has gone extraordinarily smooth,” Terrell continued. “We’ve reached out to as many people as we can to put together Dayton-inspired gift bags for all the bands. They’ll be waiting for them when they show up at the hotel because we want to thank the musicians for coming out. All of them are performing 100 percent for free. None of them wanted a dime to come here so I want to let them know how much our community appreciates it.”

Terrell’s wife, Lacey, organized the Dayton United benefit, Drawing Together, at Yellow Cab on Friday, Aug. 30.
“Lacey knows a lot of tattoo artists so she put together this pop-up tattoo shop with 15 different artists doing Dayton-inspired tattoos,” he said. “All of the proceeds are going to the victims. There will be music on Friday, too. Moira, Goodnight Goodnight and some other local bands will be playing. The way people have responded has blown my mind. It’s great to see everyone pulling together.”
