3 buildings that wouldn't exist without the century-old Danis Co.

B.G. Danis Sr., the son of a blacksmith, founded the Danis Co. construction firm in 1916 with partner Robert Hunt.

In the years since, the company has been involved in shaping Dayton's skyline and personality with some of the city's most important architectural work.

Here are some examples of buildings we wouldn't have without the company:

1. Convent of the Sisters of the Precious Blood. Now called the Maria Joseph Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on Salem Avenue, the building constructed in the 1920s was considered one of the most elaborate in the city at the time.

2. Victoria Theatre. After a fire destroyed the building's theater portion in 1918, Danis rebuilt the structure and reopened it in 1919.

3. Kettering Tower. Danis broke ground on the building, then called the Winters Bank Tower, in 1969 and built it into a 30-story center of Dayton's business district.

Danis has continued involvement in some of the city's most important projects, including more recently RiverScape and the Schuster Performing Arts Center (in a joint venture with Messer).
