When the residents living near a Centerville High School neighborhood looked out their windows, last April, they must have thought they were living in a real-life comic book.

The streets were filled with superheroes, big and small, l running and walking through their streets. They soon discovered what they saw was one of the most anticipated runs of the year, the Superhero Donut Run (www.superherodonutrun.org) sponsored by Bill's Donut Shop and benefitting A Special Wish Foundation Dayton (ASW).

Registration is now open for the third annual Superhero Donut Run, which will be held on Saturday, April 29, at Centerville High School.

The day will feature a kid’s one-mile fun run sponsored by Primrose Schools, followed by the 5K and 10K. Early registration, which guarantees a run shirt, is open through April 16. The cost of the run is $20 for the kid’s fun run, $30 for the 5K and $40 for the 10K. Any registration past the 16th will not receive a run shirt and will experience a price increase of $5. On the day of the event the registration fee increase $10 from the original cost.

To register or find additional information, log on to www.superherodonutrun.org or call 937-223-WISH (9674).

The kid’s fun run will take place on the track located inside the stadium, beginning at 9 a.m., while the 5K/10K, with a 9:30 a.m. start, will exit the stadium and hit the streets of the adjacent Centerville neighborhood. Winners of each category (men, women, under 18) will receive a first place medal along with one dozen donuts a week for a year, courtesy of Bill’s Donut Shop. Second and Third place winners will also receive the respective medal and a half dozen donuts a week for a year.

Runners, who register by the April 16 will also receive a commemorative medal and all runners will be rewarded at the end of their race with food from Bill’s Donuts. Bag pick will take place at Runners Plus, 8970 Kingsridge Drive, near the Dayton Mall, from noon until 8 p.m. Thursday, April 27.

Since its inception the Superhero Donut Run has received a great response and has grown each year. In 2015 the run began in the parking lot of Bill’s Donut Shop. The anticipated crowd for the first year was no more than 300 participants, but the number was quickly surpassed, with registration being closed at 550. To accommodate the success of the run, in 2016, the run was moved to Centerville High School where over 1,200 runners dressed up as their favorite superhero and joined in all the fun and a new permanent home was found. ASW is anticipating hitting the 2,000 mark this year.

“The success of the Superhero Donut Run has been exciting for ASW,” said David Seyer, executive director of A Special Wish Foundation. “We are grateful to our sponsors and so many superheroes, of all ages, for coming out in support of making very special wishes come true for children, throughout the region, who are battling a life threatening disorder.”

A Special Wish Foundation-Dayton Chapter is the only wish granting organization located in the Dayton region. For more information on how you can be part of granting a local child’s wish, go online to www.aspecialwishdayton.org.
