Education has been a core part of The Dayton Art Institute since the museum’s early days in the 1920s and 1930s. The summer programs for youngsters continue to be a popular summer camp option for Miami Valley families.
Your contributions of art supplies will help young artists develop their skills and interests.
“The Dayton Art Institute is currently seeking donations for DAI’s annual Summer Art Camps,” said Jane A. Black, director of engagement. “In 2013, the Art Institute’s education programs and initiatives reached nearly 6,000 youth in the Dayton Region and we are hoping the public can help us with outreach to even more children in 2014.”
The museum’s Summer Art Camps are just around the corner; registration began April 1.
Kids entering pre-K through high school may take part in the themed, weekly camps. Sessions take place June through August, and include Mini Art Camps (pre-K and Kindergarten), Kids Camps (grades 1-3 and 4-6), Teen Classes (grades 7-9), and new High School Half-Day Classes (grades 8-12).
The DAI wish list includes:
- Glue Sticks
- Elmer's Glue
- Masking Tape
- Acrylic paint
- Tempera Paint
- Paintbrushes
- Markers
- Colored Pencils
- Paper Bags with Handles
- Plastic Egg Cartons
- Coffee Cans
- Cardboard Tubes (toilet, paper towel, etc)
Donations of supplies may be dropped off at the museum during regular hours and should be clearly marked as being for Summer Art Camp. Regular museum hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Here’s one more way you can Make a Difference: The DAI is hoping to install a new ergonomically correct customer service area. You can help by donating money through Power2Give, the online fund-raising web site. Donate through power2give.org
