DIY under $10: painted mug

About a year and a half ago, I provided you all with what I thought was a great DIY. It was to use sharpies on mugs or plates. By just baking your sharpie artwork in the oven, it was supposed to become permanent. Well, like many of you who also tried this project, my artwork washed off the second I put it into the dishwasher. This project has haunted me and I have finally found the perfect project for all of you who wanted the customized look on your coffee mugs. For just $9.93 you can create mugs like mine. I made this project about a month ago and have given it the wear and tear. It has been run in the dishwasher, scrubbed clean and is still holding up wonderfully!

Supplies needed

Items I purchased:

• Large letter stickers — $3.99 at Michael’s Arts and Crafts

• Dark Green and Light Green Sharpie oil-based paint pen — $2.97 each at www.HomeDepot.com

Items I already had:

• White mug

• Oven

• Baking sheet

Directions

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

2. Place your letter sticker onto the outside of your mug.

3. Begin adding dots on all of the white area of your mug with your dark green paint pen.

4. Repeat this step with the light green paint pen.

5. Continue filling in your mug until you are happy with the look.

6. Once complete, peel of the sticker and remove any excess adhesive from the mug.

7. Place your mug on a cookie sheet and bake it in the oven for 30 minutes. Turn the oven off and let it cool in the oven. I left mine in here for a couple hours.

8. Once it is cool, it is ready to use for all your favorite beverages!
