A holiday tradition returns to downtown Tipp City this weekend with the Yuletide Winter’s Gathering.

The shopkeepers’ open house traditionally is held the second weekend in November. Hours will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15.

“All the shops are loaded down with holiday merchandise,” said Terri Bessler, one of the event’s organizers and owner of Midwest Memories. “It is our premier holiday weekend.”

The merchants have advertised the event in Ohio Magazine, which named the community one of its Best Hometowns in Ohio this fall.

No matter what the weather this weekend, Santa Claus will be at Mauk Cabinets both Saturday and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. Pictures will be taken and posted on the event Facebook page. People also are welcome to take their own photos of children with Santa.

Also available will be horse drawn wagon rides from both the east and west ends of the downtown.

Bessler said she hopes there is at least “a little bite in the air” to get people in the spirit of the season.

“We really want to encourage people to shop local for their holiday giving. They can buy unique gifts in the vintage stores in town, get gift certificates from the restaurants, buy stocking stuffers and gifts at the soap store or at the toy store. There is home decor throughout,” Bessler said.

The Tipp City downtown historic district has more than 35 locally owned boutiques and restaurants with specialties including toys, games, vintage finds and antiques, collectibles, fashion and accessories, handmade soaps, furniture, art, jewelry, specialty teas and coffee, books and confections, among others. Dining also is available at downtown restaurants.
