The event served as a reminder that dog licenses are on sale until Jan. 31.
The license fee is $20 for spayed or neutered dogs and $24 for dogs that have not. There are some exceptions.
Murdock's buddy, Huber's other 7-year-old boxer Tena, howled off with the second tag.
Third went to Winston, Montgomery County auditor Karl Keith's 4-year-old Collie-shepherd mix, Winston, a rescue dog.
Keith said the first dog licenses brought in $2,000 when they were auctioned off at the Humane Society’s Pet Afflaire fundraising dinner
Each year, Montgomery County donates the number one, two and three dog tags to the Humane Society or SICSA, both animal welfare agencies.

“Someone has to be the voice of the animals” Huber said. “The people involved in the Humane Society try to be the voice.”
According to the county, licenses can be purchased in five ways:
