The number one, two and three licensed dogs were tagged during a bark-tastic press conference Friday in the lobby of the Montgomery County Administration Building.

The first tag went to Murdock, a 7-year-old boxer owned by local philanthropist Teresa Huber, as part of a fundraiser for the Humane Society of Greater Dayton.

The event served as a reminder that dog licenses are on sale until Jan. 31.

The license fee is $20 for spayed or neutered dogs and $24 for dogs that have not. There are some exceptions.

Murdock's buddy, Huber's other 7-year-old boxer Tena, howled off with the second tag.

Third went to Winston, Montgomery County auditor Karl Keith's 4-year-old Collie-shepherd mix, Winston, a rescue dog.

Keith said the first dog licenses brought in $2,000 when they were auctioned off at the Humane Society’s Pet Afflaire fundraising dinner

Each year, Montgomery County donates the number one, two and three dog tags to the Humane Society  or SICSA, both animal welfare agencies.
