DAYTON — Misty Benjamin has a thing for unusual.
“I normally look for what others would consider ugly,” the 32-year-old said, adding that her style goal is to be a lady.
“I try to be classy and to be expressive and not to be afraid to try different styles.”
The paraprofessional at Dayton PreSchool Academy doesn’t want to follow the crowd with it comes to style.
“You were created to be you,” said Benjamin. “You weren’t created to be anyone else.”
A gospel singer since childhood, Benjamin studied musical education at Wilberforce University and is now seeking a degree in early childhood education from Ashford University.
The Trotwood resident and mom said she often shops at Gill Mart on Shiloh Spring Road in Trotwood for clothes and hits Shoe Trend in the North Town Shopping Center on Third Street in Dayton for footwear.
For finds, she shops thrift stores and garage sales. But a great piece can be found at unexpected places. Benjamin picked up a twisting bicycle chain necklace that works with a pair of her boots at a church convention.
“I do like different,” she said.
