Dr. Horton was one of those people who stood out among the rest of us and could truly be called a great man. All you had to do was visit his office and glance at all of the different awards to know how “large” his world was.
As he entered the room to care for your pet, his intellect, kindness and enthusiasm for life provided a sharp contrast to so many of the rest of us who go about our days fatigued, self-absorbed and “limited” in our vision of what we can do.
Echoes of his spirit will no doubt continue to be felt and heard in the communities his life touched. As I was going through some paperwork, I found the following quote. It seems to speak with a voice that Michael Horton would understand.
It says, “The best element in a successful life is not material gain or the applause of the crowd. It is the contribution you may make to the soundness and the fullness of the life of the communities in which your lives may fall. And as you contribute to your community you contribute to your country.” – Author Unknown
