In Middletown, a new Pendleton Art Center has opened at 1105 Central Ave. There’s plenty of space for dozens of art studios in the three-story, 45,000 square-foot building. There are a total of 65 artist gallery/studio combinations. The beauty of this collective is that everyone contributes to the success of all. The individual spaces are rented, with all the artists open only on the first Friday and Saturday of each month. This Pendleton Center is the fourth for Jim Verdin. He also started collective art venues in Cincinnati, Ashland, Ky., and Rising Sun, Ind.
In Miamisburg, artist Mike Elsass, Bonnie Nolan of the Miamisburg Merchants Association, businessman Joe Harrison, and the city of Miamisburg have all worked together to start a multiuse gallery at 43 S. Main. It’s not quite as big as Pendleton with only 9,000 square feet, but the excitement and energy are the same. This is a new venture. It might just be a temporary spot; only time will tell. But the bottom line is there are more visual arts venues, and more creative ways, that artists are using to get their works in front of the public eye.
Artists getting creative … imagine that?
