April weather has been a mixture of up and down temperatures from a warm start to a chillier finish.

This month has already seen more than 12 days of temperatures in the 70s and 80s, with the warmest day of the month reaching 83 degrees on April 20.

However, for the rest of this month, temperatures are likely to be cooler than usual, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

“Highs will be slowly warming through the rest of the week, although they will remain below normal,” the NWS said in a Twitter post.

Temperatures could reach around 60 degrees today and be back in the mid-60s Saturday. Typically high temps are around 70s degrees at this time of year, according to NWS.

Differing weather patterns aren’t new in Dayton, especially this year.

Following the fifth-warmest January on record, February was the third warmest in Dayton, with a record three days that reached 70 degrees or higher since records have been kept for the region starting in June 1893.

March saw a few high temperatures alone with the first of March hitting 75 degrees, March 6 hitting 73 degrees, March 23 falling around 70 degrees and the end of month hitting 63 degrees, according to the NWS’s Climate NOWData.

The warmer weather and records set are likely due to climate change, meteorologist James Gibson from the NWS Wilmington office said at the beginning of the month, which brings “more variability in the weather” and leads to more weather extremes.

High temperatures reached the following in Dayton, according to NWS:

April 1: 63 degrees

April 2: 52 degrees

April 3: 71 degrees

April 4: 70 degrees

April 5: 76 degrees

April 6: 52 degrees

April 7: 56 degrees

April 12: 79 degrees

April 13: 80 degrees

April 14: 75 degrees

April 15: 80 degrees

April 16: 71 degrees

On April 17, temperatures skyrocketed down into the lower 40s before warming up again with:

April 18: 60

April 19: 77 degrees

April 20: 83 degrees

April 21: 70 degrees

The remainder of the week is predicted to fall around upper 30s to the mid-60s:
