Centerville High School is closed today due to a partial power outage.

The school district initially said the school was operating under a two-hour delay, according to a Facebook post. It revised that stance about two hours later, opting to shut down the school for the day.

The closure only affects the high school, according to the district.

“Today’s outage appears to be linked to the power line that runs to the CHS Stadium,” district spokeswoman Sarah Swan told the Dayton Daily News. “A portion of that line was repaired in August, so our maintenance staff and electrical contractors are now working on plans to replace the entire line. In the meantime, we have isolated the issue so it is only affecting the stadium and are planning for classes to resume tomorrow.”

The partial power outage was reported just before 6 a.m., and the school district’s maintenance team started trouble-shooting the situation, Swan said.

CHS families and staff were notified about the 2-hour delay at 6:38 a.m. and about the school closure at 8:17 a.m., she said.

This is the third outage of the school year, Swan confirmed. An outage on Aug. 23, which led to an early dismissal for CHS students, was related to the same power line at the high school that caused today’s partial outage, she said.

Another outage, one that affected the neighborhood around CHS, also occurred this fall, but was resolved within about 30 minutes, so no school closure occurred, Swan said.
