Suzanne Klopfenstein named publisher of Cox First Media

Jana Collier to retire at end of year

Cox Enterprises has named Suzanne Klopfenstein the publisher of Cox First Media, which includes the Dayton Daily News, the Springfield News-Sun, the Journal-News and

Klopfenstein will assume her new role on Jan. 1, 2023, when publisher Jana Collier retires.

“Our local newspapers are the fabric of the community and play a critical role in keeping our citizens informed,” Klopfenstein said. “I am committed to continuing the mission of local journalism and am passionate about growing our digital reach and strength, so we can better serve our readers and advertisers now and in the future.”

Klopfenstein has 30 years of media experience and most recently served as senior director of sales for Cox First Media. She joined Cox Enterprises and the Dayton Daily News in 1993 and has been instrumental in leading change, driving innovation and building operationally efficient teams for the future. She’s been at the forefront of Cox First Media’s digital advertising and audience strategies.

As publisher, she will report to Sandy Schwartz, CEO of the Cox Family Office, and longtime Cox executive.

Klopfenstein is a Springfield native with a history of community involvement. She’s held leadership positions in the Dayton community and the region, including serving on the board of directors for the Home Builders Association of Dayton and Habitat for Humanity. She is also a member and past president of the Multi-Media Newspaper Advertising Executive Association.

Klopfenstein will become publisher at the beginning of 2023 but will begin work immediately with Collier and other executives to ensure a smooth transition.

Collier has worked for Cox for 34 years and has been publisher since 2020. “I love the Dayton community and intend to spend my retirement years here, continuing to support the causes and organizations I love.”

Cox First Media is owned by Cox Enterprises and includes the Dayton Daily News, the Springfield News-Sun, the Journal-News, and Cox First Media advertising services. Together, these brands reach more than 444,000 people in the Miami Valley every week, through daily print and digital publications. The products have a total paid circulation of 104,805 and 172,000 newsletter subscribers.
