A 34-year-old Dayton man was killed in a single-vehicle crash last week in which police said speed and alcohol were likely factors.

Killian Thomas was identified Tuesday as the crash victim by Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash reported around 1:15 a.m. Aug. 23 in the 1300 block of Stanley Avenue in Dayton.

A second crash victim was taken to a local hospital in serious condition, according to Dayton police.

Additional information was not available. The crash remains under investigation.

Dayton police posted last week on X, formerly known as Twitter, that officers responded to two fatal crashes in less than a week.

“We want to remind everyone to watch your speed,” the post read. “Speed was likely a factor in each crash. You should never drink and drive. Use a ride share service, cab or designated driver.”

The post didn’t specify which crashes it was referencing, but said both crashes happened in the early morning.

Dayton police responded to a crash around 4:45 a.m. Aug. 19 on Shoup Mill Road at Riverton Road after a car crashed into a utility pole.

The driver and a passenger were both taken by medics to a local hospital, according to a crash report. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Kovay Pooler of Dayton, was later pronounced dead.

The passenger had minor injuries, according to the report.
