Armed Robbery Suspect Found In Dumpster

Police in Springfield said they arrested two teenagers Tuesday afternoon after a concerned citizen reported suspicious activity.

Officers said they pulled over a car with two teenagers who they believed could have connections to an armed robbery that happened Monday night.

Police reports said two armed men walked into the Dairy Queen on Bechtle Avenue, held a gun to a cashiers head and threatened to kill her. After a foot pursuit, police said they arrested a teenager who they found hiding in a dumpster. The other gunman got away.

On Tuesday, police said a resident reported that several teenagers were acting suspicious in the area of the armed robbery. Police then pulled over a car that they determined may have been used in the robbery and arrested two teens at gunpoint.

A News Center 7 photographer caught the dramatic scene on camera.

Springfield police chief Steve Moody said the two teenagers were questioned and released to their parents, but officers are still investigating any possible connections that the boys may have to the crime.

Moody said they found a mask and gloves in the car, which were taken into evidence.

He said officers also returned to the area where the initial foot pursuit occurred and found a handgun, along with clothing they believe may have belonged to one of the gunmen.
