Council member resigns to take job with Fairfield Schools

A new job opportunity is the reason why a Carlisle Village Council member resigned Tuesday night.

Jonathan McEldowney, who was in his first four-year term, announced his resignation effective July 31 as he was offered an administrative position with the Fairfield City Schools.

In the resignation letter he submitted to council, McEldowney said, “this has been a professional goal of mine for the past two years… This will allow me to focus on my new career and it will allow an appointed council member to fully devote their time and energy to the needs of the community.”

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the past two and a half years serving the village of Carlisle,” McEldowney said in his letter. “It has been a pleasure to work with each of you and to serve the community.”

In an email July 19 to council, he said he was looking forward to the opportunity in Fairfield and added that his new position will be more time consuming that his teaching career.

Village Manager Julie Duffy said council is taking applications and resumes for any resident interested in completing McEldowney’s term which expires on Dec. 31, 2019. She said council will be taking resumes and letters of interest from interested residents until 4 p.m. Aug. 10. Council has 60 days to select a person to be appointed to the vacant at-large seat. Candidates must be a Carlisle resident for one continuous year and a registered voter to be considered.

McEldowney has been a teacher with the Miamisburg City Schools since 2006. Prior to his election to council in 2015, he was appointed to the Park Board in 2012 where he served as secretary and vice chairman. As a council member, he has served as deputy mayor and as secretary to the Planning Commission.

Last month, the Fairfield Board of Education approved his hiring as an assistant principal at East Elementary School, according to school spokeswoman Gina Gentry-Fletcher. He received a two-year contract with an annual salary of $65,000.
