Bellbrook burglar sentenced for December case

A Bellbrook man police said they suspect has burglarized between 40 and 50 houses or vehicles in the city since 2005 will serve four years in jail for an incident at a home in the city last year.

Matthew Golden, 30, was sentenced in Greene County Common Pleas Court on Thursday after he changed his plea to guilty in a case where he was accused of burglarizing a Lakeview Drive home in December.

“Golden has been a problem in the community for quite sometime,” said Sgt. Keith Salyers, who was a detective at the time when Golden entered the home through a bedroom window.

During the December burglary, a 16-year-old girl discovered Golden in her bedroom when she returned home from school.

When arrested on Linda Drive following the December burglary, Golden was in possession of items taken from a separate burglary at Bellbrook city councilwoman Elaine Middlestetter’s Eckworth Drive residence, Saylers said.

Golden also had a separate case in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court, where he broke into a Ziebart store in Miami Township shortly after the Lakeview incident. He was sentenced to one year in prison for that case, but will be serving his sentence concurrent with the Greene County case.

In 2012, Golden was convicted of receiving stolen property and served 24 months in prison for that crime. He also has numerous other arrests, ranging from drug-related offenses to thefts, according to jails records.
